Master Byrne has been the head coach at Shannon TKD since 1998, having started training with the club in 1989. A 7th Dan black belt in Taekwon-Do, Mr Byrne is also a Sport and Exercise Scientist and a Coach Education Officer working with Sport Ireland.

"When I finished school I started university studying industrial chemistry. I soon realised that my passion was for coaching and dropped out of university, choosing to re-enrol in Sport and Exercise science. I really believe that when you do what you love, it never feels like work. I've been very fortunate to have found a profession in coach development that allows me the flexibility to pursue my Taekwon-Do competitive and coaching career. My main motivation in coaching is watching young people grow up and excel through Taekwon-Do and I have had the privilege of sharing the journeys of so many incredible human beings over the years"

Master Byrne is currently completing a Professional Doctorate in Human Performance and Innovation at the University of Limerick. He works with governing bodies of sport in the development of their high performance coaching pathways. He is also the Chair of the International Taekwon-Do Federation's Coaches Committee.
